Key Achievements
  • National Sales Promotion - Point person from my team on a large national sales promotion. This promotion was a first of its kind at Pulte in that it directed all traffic to Pulte.com and used banner ads on prominent websites. Multiple load tests were performed to insure the increased traffic could be served. Weak links were identified and upgraded. Multiple teams were brought together to develop monitoring and contingency plans. In the end, the promotion was a large success and received praise from the highest levels of management.
  • Security Patching - Worked to develop a monthly patch plan for all the server environments at Pulte (dev, qa, staging, production). Prior to this no consistent schedule existed and servers could be months behind in patches and vulnerable to known exploits.

Key Achievements
  • Windows 2003 Deployment - Worked on one of the initial deployment projects for Windows 2003 within the enterprise. Older websites/applications were migrated as well and new deployments. Project was very successful and the model for the migration was adopted and used for future deployments.
  • Project Specialist - Lead web hosting center representative to large BizTalk 2002 project. The project was successfully launched on time and continues to grow into a large part of the Ford messaging backbone.
  • NT to Windows 2000 migration - Oversaw project to migrate a important internal application from its existing NT 4.0 environment to Windows 2000. Required careful coordination between the customers, SQL group, server build group, and web hosting center.

The lead technologist of servers role directly supports all Windows NT/2000 server as well as researches and implements new technologies (such as VPN, Active Directory, Exchange 2000, and Storage Area Networks).

Key Achievements
  • Windows 2000 Migration - Led project to upgrade all existing Windows NT servers to Windows 2000. Upgraded the domain to an active directory structure.
  • Active Directory design - Designed the Active Directory structure for the corporation. Used Active Directory to rollout software, assign desktop settings, and to delegate permissions to other IT groups.
  • Installation and administration of a Storage Area Network - Led project to research and purchase a 1 terabyte SAN. Multiple vendors were brought on site for evaluation. Vigorous testing was done to the systems and based on price and performance a purchase was made. The SAN currently consists of 4 fibre switches, a SCSI to fibre bridge, storage units, robotic tape library, and high end SQL and Oracle servers running mission critical applications and data. Recently a next generation storage unit was added to the SAN increasing the capacity to 1.8 terabytes.
  • Developed a corporate wide backup solution for NT/2000 servers - Researched, purchased, and implemented the rollout of Veritas Backup Exec on the companies NT/2000 servers. Setup a centralized backup server utilizing a 4 drive/28 tape robotic library. Provided a significant increase of reliability to the company's disaster recovery plans.
  • Upgraded all UNIX servers to Y2K compliant versions of software - Led project to provide critical updates to the companies UNIX servers OS, BIOS, and specialized software. Taking more then a year to accomplish at over 26 different locations throughout the Midwest and Florida the project was accomplished on time. As a result of these efforts zero Y2K issues arose on the UNIX servers.
  • Redesigned DNS structure - Added Windows 2000 DNS servers to the existing environment and changed the naming of DNS zones to the more proper jacobsons.com. Integrated DNS into active directory for redundancy. Setup dynamic DNS to allow the data to be accurate and up to date. Tested and proved that existing
  • Redesigned DHCP structure - Created a DHCP structure that allowed two DHCP servers to be up and running at the same time while servicing the same scopes and providing full redundancy to the network. Switched all PC's in the company to use DHCP instead of fixed ip addresses.
  • Installation and setup of new servers - Added many new servers to the corporation's network. These include a proxy server to replace the old method of regulating internet access by the users PC's ip address, an ftp server to allow vendors to transfer files via the internet, domain controllers, file/print servers, intranet servers, VPN server, SQL servers, Oracle servers, RAS servers, and UNIX servers.
  • PC rollouts - Setup the windows 2000 Remote Installation Service to help rollout windows 2000 professional PCs. This service has allowed the operations group to rollout PCs in a faster and more uniformed manner.
  • Interoperability between UNIX and NT - Helped create methods to allow the NT and UNIX systems to communicate with each other.
  • Systems Management - Setup software to monitor the health of NT/2000 servers and PCs. By using snmp, dmi, and cim systems can be monitored for any hardware or software failures.
